The 30-60-90 Day Challenge
The National Association of Regulatory Commissioners (NARUC) and a diverse group of supporters launched the second phase of a nation wide energy efficiency campaign, Anybody Can Serve, So Let's Conserve (ACS), to demonstrate how families can take simple steps to lower their energy usage, save on utility bills, and help clean the environment.
The "30-60-90 Day Challenge" will pit low income families from each state (with an income of $50,000 or less) against each other in a competition to see who can conserve the most electricity.

The Yang family was chosen by ACS as the Minnesota "30-60-90 Day Challenge" participant. The Yang's received a took kit which included items to help them prepare their home for conserving energy. The toolkit includes energy efficient light bulbs, a water heater isulation blanket, weatherstripping tape and caulking. The Yang's will be publishing an online blog documenting their experience.

Participating families will be asked to submit their utility bills from April, May and June of 2009 to establish a baseline cost for their utility services. The selected families will then compete against each other during the months of April, May and June of 2010 in an effort to become the family that conserves the most energy during the three month challenge.
The Yang family received their efficiency kit and immediately got down to business installing the water heater blanket and putting in weather stripping. The whole family pitched in and Chairman Boyd stopped by to offer his assistance. The Yang Family Blog will be available soon.
